"People also believed that eating in the morning would help speed up your metabolism, in turn helping people lose weight. The recent study also showed that eating breakfast had very little effect on people's metabolism. The only significant difference found between the people who were studied, was those that ate breakfast had more energy early on and those that didn't seemed to be a bit more lethargic," said the study.
As far as productivity is concerned, extra energy in the morning could prove useful, but from a dietary standpoint, a person usually burn the extra-consumed breakfast calories.
Some critics said that the amount of food consumed or types of food consumed were not fully examined by the study. Researchers also failed to discuss the importance of breakfast for average people, underweight people and children.
"They didn't look at the benefits beyond weight such as focus, energy levels, appetite or hunger," said Dawn Jackson, a registered dietitian in Chicago said.
Majority of the diet and nutrition experts claim that eating breakfast is essential when it comes to good nutrition in general. For example, children are developing and should eat breakfast to support more energy and focus throughout the morning. It is believed that healthy and nutritious foods are just as important as eating breakfast.
