Rape accused Mumbai Police officer suspended

Senior Mumbai Police officer Sunil Paraskar, who is accused of raping and molesting a model, was suspended on Tuesday.

Paraskar was shown the door after recommendation from the home department and it was approved by Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan, said sources.

The source also revealed: "The proposal to suspend Paraskar was sent to Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan. The file regarding Paraskar's suspension was received this afternoon in the CM office and Mr Chavan has given approval to the action."

Paraskar was granted a pre-arrest bail by a Mumbai court after the court went through the mails exchanged by the police officer and the model. The mails reflected consent.

The pre-arrest bail application was filed by Paraskar on July 25, just a week after an FIR was registered against him by suburban Malwani police under sections 376(2)(rape by a police officer), 376 C (intercourse by superintendent of jail, remand home, etc) and 354(D) (stalking) of the Indian Penal Code.

In her complaint the 25-year old model asserted that Paraskar, 57, had molested and sexually assaulted her on two occasions since December 2013. The model said that she first met the police officer in 2012 regarding a case. Paraskar was the Additional Commissioner of Police at that time.
