While gay men in US are debating the HIV prevention ill, consensus is rising in UK that the pill be made available on the NHS.
The drug Truvada taken once a day regularly may help in preventing HIV. It is an oblong blue pill that is a combination of two antiretroviral medications namely tenofovir and emtricitabine.
The gay men in U.S. are getting angry over promiscuity, irregular usage of condom and the possibility to either eradicate or aggravate the HIV epidemic, which has cost the lives of 36 million people across the globe in the last thirty years.
According to the World Health Organization statistics, Washington is worst hit by this HIV crisis, with around three percent of residents infected or triple, considered an epidemic.
A latest survey conducted by the mayor's office also shed new light that about only about half of the gay men used condoms.
The main reasons of concern are the rise in syphilis among gay men and the incapability of the people to take drugs on a regular basis.
The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on Wednesday issued its first official guidelines for the medical consultants, advising them to recommend the HIV prevention drug to patients who are at a substantial risk of contracting HIV.
As per the guidelines, this daily medicine should be taken along with using condoms as a method to bring down the number of new HIV infected patients.
According to the studies conducted by the CDC, the pill when taken regularly brings down the HIV transmission rate by up to 92 percent.
