3 passengers taken for Ebola tests from Delhi Airport

While West Africa is battling the latest Ebola outbreak, the scare has not left India untouched.

Three air-travellers coming in from Liberia have been isolated and taken to a government hospital in Delhi for tests to check whether they have Ebola.

Delhi and Mumbai airports are on alert and detailed precautionary arrangements have been made to screen 112 stranded Indians who are arriving today by various flights from and around Ebola-hit Liberia.

Some of these passengers, traveling by a South African Airways flight, have already arrived at the Mumbai Airport just after midnight.

"As part of the tentative plan, the aircraft will be first taken to a remote bay and all passengers will be screened at the step-ladder exit after the arrival of flights at the Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport (CSIA)," the Mumbai International Airport Limited (MIAL) said in a statement.

The statement added that the passengers who are found to have no symptoms will be cleared and shifted to the terminal for immigration and customs clearance and those with symptoms suggestive of Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) will be directly shifted to the designated hospital in ambulances from the bay.

The chances of finding these passengers having Ebola are scarce as they would have already been stopped and quarantined after getting screened thrice before landing in India - Liberia, South Africa United and Arab Emirates or Ethiopia.

MIAL informs that Ethiopian Airline, Emirates, Etihad, Qatar Airways, Jet Airways and South African Airways are flying these passengers to Delhi and Mumbai.

MIAL also said that disinfection of the flight will be carried out after all the passengers alight from the plane.
