September delight: Supermoon, Mars and Saturn come calling

The third supermoon for this year will come with the add-on benefit of Mars and Saturn being visible in the sky.

In what can be termed as good news for star gazers, Mars and Saturn will be visible in the sky with the third brightest Moon of the year during the whole month of September.

The astronomical show for the evening of September 1 featured Saturn and the crescent Moon along side with the planet Mars lying five degrees to Saturn. The telescopic vision of the planet showed the ring of the planet Saturn to be tilted on 22 degrees.

The three brightest stars Arcturus, Vega and Altair also glittered in the evening sky with the former two glowing with magnitude 0.0 and the third with 0.8-magnitude. The planet Mars shone 18 degrees to the right of the red star Antares at the start of the month.

It is interesting to note that Antares is the ?opposite of Aries? and in Greek, Aries translates to the planet Mars. This means that the two rivals will shine side by side this September.

As all the star gazers will know, the full moon of September will be the third consecutive supermoon of this year. This supermoon will also be known as Harvest Moon because of its proximity to the Autumn Equinox.
