Sean Astin Says Mom Patty Duke Was 'at Peace' in Her Last Moments After 'Suffering Terribly' From Sepsis

Los Angeles: A day after her demise, Patty Duke's son Sean Astin has said that his mother was "at peace" when she died.

Astin told Entertinament Tonight, "She was surrounded by her family. It was in the middle of the night and it was a race to get there. It was a very powerful experience. And then, in her last moments, she was at peace."

Duke passed away on Tuesday, after battling sepsis that was a result of a shattered intestine, which according to Astin had left his 69-year-old mother "suffering terribly."

After her death, Astin took to Instagram to pay tribute to the actress in a warm post along with a picture showing Duke holding him as a baby.

He wrote with the post, "This morning, our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, matriarch and the exquisite artist, humanitarian, and champion for mental health, Anna PATTY DUKE Pearce, closed her eyes, quieted her pain and ascended to a beautiful place."

The Goonies and The Lord of the Rings star also initiated a CrowdRise mental health project in his mother's memory, as she was detected with bipolar disorder in 1982.

In his tribute, Astin called his mom a "tireless warrior" and talked about how she worked and created awareness for mental health awareness, which he now wants to carry on.
