New Delhi: The Supreme Court, on Friday, ordered Sahara chief Subrata Roy to be sent back to jail. After spending two years in jail, Roy is out on parole.
The apex court had previously extended the parole of Subrata Roy till September 23, which was granted to him in May on humanitarian grounds after his mother passed away.
Sahara chief’s lawyer today sought an extension of the parole granted to Sahara chief. The SC however said, “You (Roy) are going back to jail.”
Earlier this month, the top court had asked the Sahara Group to come clean by disclosing its sources from where it had raised Rs. 25,000 crore and paid its investors in cash, noting that it is “difficult to digest” as such a huge amount “cannot fall from the heavens.”
The Supreme Court had ordered Sahara in August 2012 to deposit with capital market Sebi over Rs. 24,000 crore collected from nearly three crore investors through issuance of certain bonds.
