A woman was set afire allegedly by a youth after she resisted his rape attempt.
The woman, in Sisoli town in Muzaffarnagar, was set on fire allegedly by a youth as she protested against a rape attempt by him.
According to the police, the woman was taken to a hospital and her condition was stated to be serious.
Senior Superintendent of Police, Alok Priya Darshi said the victim was alone in her house when the youth, identified as Shiv Kumar, barged in and tried to rape her.
Kumar set the woman afire when she resisted his rape attempt.
In another incident, a woman allegedly committed suicide at Luhari village in the district. She was seemingly distressed over an influential man troubling her father.
The woman, 21, allegedly set herself afire after her father Mursalim was harassed owing to some money issue.
Police said they are probing the matter.
