Withings launches button-sized, e-ink Go tracker - Withings has made a name for itself by manufacturing elegant products with high price tags.
In an apparent effort to attract the masses, the company on Tuesday launched the baby of its fitness tracker family at CES 2016: the Withings Go. The company claims that the coin-sized device could automatically track your activity and sleep and show your progress on its e-ink display.
The Withings Go resembles the Jawbone Up Move and the Fitbit Zip in its look. It's a small disk which you can fit into a wristband or a clip carrier so you can wear it in different ways. Jawbone's Up Move as well as the Misfit Flash use LEDs to indicate settings and time rather than full displays, but the Withings Go is different as it uses an e-ink display that covers one side of the disk. A dial is used by the device to show the activity of the wearer for the day, and the same bar can change to show the time.
The Go is capable of monitoring activity and sleep automatically and will recognize when you're walking around your home or running around the block. The fitness tracker is water resistant up to 5ATM, or up to 50 meters. It is notable that swim tracking has always been included by Withings in its devices, and the company has done the same with Go. When the device senses you're completing vigorous activity, it will monitor distance, calories, and duration.
The first activity tracker manufactured by Withings was the $450 Activite, a "French designed, Swiss made" device that masqueraded as a regular, minimalist watch. The Withings Go is priced at $69 and will be available in Q1 of 2016.
