Vodafone invests Rs 500 crore in Apr-Nov to improve services in New Delhi, NCR

Vodafone India has financed nearly Rs 500 crore this fiscal to upgrade the quality of its services in New Delhi and in the National Capital Region.

Sunil Sood, the company’s managing director, while interacting with the media on Friday, said that the company has literally set up a war room in New Delhi to handle service issues.

However, contrary to setting up a work force and new sites for operations to handle the service issues, Sood said that the company takes up the recommendation to reimburse customers for call drops, with the government. He said, “Nowhere in the world there are such rules.”

In the last three months, telecom operators have added over 2,000 mobile towers in New Delhi to check the nuisance of call drops.

As per an official in Department of Telecom (DoT), as many as 2,092 mobile sites (2G and 3G) have been set up in the Delhi service area in the past 12 weeks which has resulted in the call drop rate to come down significantly.

Revealing the data, the official said that Vodafone’s call drop rate has reduced to 0.3-2.97% from 1.53-6.63% in New Delhi. Bharti Airtel’s call drop rate was in the range of 2.92-17.77% earlier and has reduced to 0.08-2.98%.
