Sydney: Microsoft is yet to start the official launch of the Windows 10 Mobile update for Windows Phone 8.1 devices, but Vodafone Australia has completed testing the software update and is likely to launch it soon.
Windows 10 Mobile was announced in November last year and Microsoft had stated that the update will be ready by early 2016. But it has still not arrived.
Carrier partners of Redmond-based Microsoft have been making early announcements about the release of the Windows 10 Mobile OS update, but T-Mobile Poland is said to have already rolled out Windows 10 Mobile update for its users in January this year.
Australia could be next in line after Poland, with Vodafone Australia completing the testing of the much-awaited software upgrade. The carrier has shared the status of its Windows Phone 8.1 devices as "testing complete, awaiting confirmation of rollout schedule," suggesting that the update will be made available to its users very soon, MS Power User reported.
Vodafone Italy has also established on its forum site that it will start releasing the Windows 10 Mobile OTA update from next week. Windows Phone 8.1 devices like Lumia 535, Lumia 635, Lumia 735, Lumia 830, Lumia 930 and Lumia 1520 will be promoted to Windows 10 Mobile between March 7-March 13.
The release of Windows 10 Mobile update is in the offing, but Microsoft has not announced a definite timeframe for it. It is also rumored to release Windows 10 Mobile ROM for OnePlus 2, Xiaomi Mi 5 and the upcoming OnePlus 3 smartphones.
