It seems that BJP MP Subramanian Swamy has decided to execute his vicious attacks against technocrats holding important offices in the Narednra Modi-led government with international educational/professional standing.
Swamy's attack on the senior government official begins with unsubstantiated allegations in the public domain. He raises question over their patriotism and personal integrity. Swamy keeps on attacking the officials and the government observes radio silence till the issue becomes controversial and the target decides to admit defeat even before the fight begins.
The Swamy Raj has been successfully executed in the case of "OperationR3"- the operation launched by Swamy to force Reserve Bank of India (RBI) governor Raghuram Rajan to step down.
Swamy attacked Rajan openly, calling him not being "mentally Indian" to his "professional efficiency" and "wrecking the economy" with his interest rate policies. All this while, the Modi government and the RSS remain silent. Rajan conceded defeat and decided to change his path before the start of the real fight.
Now Swamy wants Chief Economic Advisor (CEA), Arvind Subramanian, sacked. Swamy on Wednesday tweeted that Subramanian encouraged US Congress to act against India to defend the interests of US Pharmaceutical companies.
Swamy also tweeted that it is Subramanian who encouraged "Congi" to become rigid on GST (Goods and Services Tax) clauses, apparently referring to CEA panel recommendations on GST.
It is tough to make any comment on Swamy's first charge but claiming that Subramanian encouraging US Congress against Indian pharma companies sounds completely ridiculous.
A Subramanian-led panel had offered in December 2015 a practical solution to iron out the political differences between the BJP and Congress on the GST issue.
