Sonos Updates Flagship Play:5 Speaker, New Software Tailors Any Sonos Speaker To Your Space - On Monday, Calif. based wireless speaker company Sonos announced two major updates - a new speaker and software that will improve the sound quality on all of its Play speakers.
The first update on the hardware side is a new $500 Play:5, the company's flagship all-in-one speaker. The updated Play:5 contains three sub woofers, three tweeters, six WiFi antennas and six drivers.
The second new update from Sonos is a piece of software it's releasing for all of its Play speakers called Trueplay. The new software enables Sonos users to tune their speakers to better fit in with the unique acoustic environment of any room or space.
Sonos is hoping this is just the beginning of journey for Trueplay and its goal is to make its speakers more "self-aware."
Sonos can give users a much better experience with streaming music. The company has incorporated the streaming music services into the Sonos app, so users can get access to any service they want and stream to all their Sonos speaker at the same time. Sonos also received Apple Music integration into the Sonos app - the company said the integration would go live later this year.
Streaming music is still in very nascent stage and affinity for paid streaming is less than 10% in places like the U.S. But with the institution of Apple Music, the acceptance of streaming music is only going to increase.
