SC to decide Sahara's fate today; crunch time for Subrata Roy

Today is going to be an important day for Sahara Group chief Subroto Roy Sahara as the Supreme Court will decide the company and its chief's fate today.

Sahara has been given a last probability to increase funds towards its belongings so as to bail out its founder.

If the business conglomerate fails to increase the money, the apex court might decide to appoint a receiver to public sale its belongings, which embrace properties similar to New York`s Plaza lodge and tracts of land in India.

Business analysts say that such a fireplace sale might create trouble for Sahara as it would fail to generate sufficient money to free Roy.

"If you ask individuals if that is one of the best time to promote excessive worth belongings within the nation, the bulk of them would say no," stated Sanjay Dutt, head of property marketing consultant Cushman and Wakefield in India. "With this type of funding, someone has to be very formidable in each sense of the phrase."

Sahara has made several efforts to generate cash to free Roy on bail. The Sahara boss has been behind bars for over a year after regulators stated Sahara failed to adjust to a courtroom order to refund billions of dollars to buyers in a bond programme that was deemed unlawful by the SC.
