Radia tapes: CBI to question Ratan Tata, Cyrus Mistry

CBI will examine the former and present Tata Sons chairperson in Radia tapes case over the supply of Tata's low-floor buses to Tamil Nadu government.

Radia tapes are responsible for exposing many communications among the corporate leaders and politicians that hinted of a nexus. Nira Radia, a corporate lobbyist, made public several taped conversations between politicians and corporate leaders.

These recorded conversations were about unethical issuance of government contracts, money laundering, evading taxes, and other illegal business maneuvers.

Some of the Radia tapes have led to two enquiries against Tata Sons', one of the biggest corporate houses in India. One of the cases is about the supply of Tata's low-floor buses to Tamil Nadu government.

These buses had to be procured as per Government of India's JNNURM (Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission) scheme.

The other case involving the Tata group is pertaining to iron ore mines allocation to Tata Steel. Questionable iron ore mine allocations happened at Ankua in Singhbhum district of Jharkhand.

Commenting over the CBI enquiry issue, a Tata spokesperson said "We don't have any information on this. We do not know about this."
