Two months after the appalling death of a first year B.Tech student, who jumped in front of a moving train, another city youth studying B.Tech at Sathyabhama University in Chennai committed suicide, allegedly due to persistent ragging by senior students.
According to KPHB Colony Inspector V. Sreekanth Goud, 8 pages written in a diary by Venkata Krishna Chaitanya indicated that harassment and ragging by Shekhar, a third-year student of the same college, drove him to suicide.
The youngest son of businessman Lal Babu, Chaitanya was staying in the university's hostel during his first year. However, in second year, he moved to a rented room outside the university, along with 3 other students, including Shekhar. He did not go back to Chennai even after the festival, citing various reasons.
On Thursday evening, Chaitanya was with his mother and father in their shop at Punjagutta. Around 7.30 p.m., he started for home on his bike while his parents went in a car later. Chaitanya went to his bedroom and hanged himself from the ceiling fan.
