Oops! Javadekar says Jawaharlal Nehru, Sardar Patel, Subhas Chandra Bose were hanged

New Delhi: Some may find it hilarious but it was a major embarrassment for Human Resource Development Minister Prakash Javadekar who while addressing a gathering at Madhya Pradesh's Chhindwara on Monday, committed a blooper by calling former prime minister Jawaharlal Nehru and ex-home minister Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel as 'Shaheed'.

Javadekar said in his speech that freedom fighters like Nehru and Patel were hanged while fighting for India's freedom.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader committed the blunder while participating in 'Tiranga Yatra'.

The error did not stop at Nehru and Patel, Javadekar further said that Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose was also hanged by the Britishers.

Javadekar, a Union HRD Minister, is factually wrong as Nehru died in 1964 due to natural causes, while Sardar Patel died in 1950.

Netaji's death is still mired in mystery. While two commissions of inquiry had concluded that Bose had died in a plane crash in Taipei on August 18, 1945, a third probe panel, headed by Justice MK Mukherjee, suggested that Bose was alive.
