One person died and another got injured following a major collapse of an overpass which was being demolished on southbound Interstate 75 in Ohio, US.
Officials said that a construction worker got fatally wounded when the overpass - part of the old northbound off-ramp to Hopple Street in Camp Washington, Cincinnati - collapsed at around 10.30pm on Monday.
The driver of a semi-tractor trailer which was parked near the accident site also got injured after concrete fell to the ground. They were taken to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center.
It is learned that the emergency crews were searching beneath the underpass for any more potential victims and to retrieve the body of the construction worker, which has buried under the debris at the scene. The southbound I-75 in that area has been closed 'indefinitely' during the cleanup.
Speaking to WLWT, Andre Brewster, who was nearby when the collapse occurred, said: 'I heard, like, a real big "boom"... I kinda knew right then and there that maybe something had collapsed or fallen.'
In a Twitter Post, Cincinnati fire officials confirmed at least one death, saying: "75 command confirms 1 injury of big rig driver, 1 fatality of a construction worker, 75 will be closed indefinitely."
Referring to the victim, they added: "Crews are working now to determine a plan of action to remove the worker, it will be a long operation."
