Washington: Launching a sharp attack on outspoken Republican candidate Donald Trump, US President Barack Obama said on Friday that occupying the Oval Office “is not a reality show.”
When asked about Trump during a media briefing in the White House, Obama asked the press and public to take into account past statements by Trump. The incumbent president, however, chose not to speak about any specific issues or remarks.
“This is not entertainment,” Obama said, referring to Trump’s television background. “This is not a reality show. This is a contest for the presidency of the United States,” he retorted.
It should be mentioned here that many top Republican leaders, including US House Speaker Paul Ryan are still unwilling to endorse Donald Trump’s nomination. The billionaire businessman has already managed to become the party’s presumptive nominee this week after two Republican rivals Ted Cruz and John Kasich suspended their campaigns for the White House.
Meanwhile, former Florida Governor Jeb Bush, who also campaigned unsuccessfully for the Republican nomination, posted on Facebook that he will not vote for Trump.
“Donald Trump has not demonstrated that temperament or strength of character. He has not displayed a respect for the Constitution. And, he is not a consistent conservative. These are all reasons why I cannot support his candidacy,” Bush said, but added that he may not vote for Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton too.
