NBA trade rumors: Hassan Whiteside to leave Miami Heat for max contract?

Latest NBA trade rumors claim that Miami Heat center Hassan Whiteside could leave the team for max contract. Whiteside is certainly going to be one of the most sought after free agents after the start of free agency this off-season.

It is expected that the Los Angeles Lakers would be one of many teams attempting to recruit the talented center.

Whiteside, 26, led the NBA in blocked shots by a wide margin and also ranked third in rebounding. It is expected that Whiteside will command a maximum contract this summer.

Miami Herald reported that the Heat would try to convince Whiteside to take less money to remain with the team. “There will be considerable debate inside the Heat over the next six weeks about how much to offer Hassan Whiteside when free agency begins July 1,” said the report.

It is to be noted that Whiteside’s Bird Rights are not owned by the Heat which means that they can’t go over the cap to re-sign him. If the Heat were to sign Whiteside to a max deal, they would have very little money to sign any other major free agents. With Dwyane Wade, Luol Deng, and Joe Johnson all free agents as well, the Heat are facing a tough time.
