N.W.A, Chicago, Deep Purple join Rock and Roll Hall of Fame

N.W.A., Chicago and Deep Purple are among the musicians chosen to join the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2016, organizers announced on Thursday.

N.W.A is joining the 31st class of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. The renowned hip-hop group will be inducted alongside Deep Purple, Chicago, Cheap Trick, and Steve Miller on April 8 at Brooklyn's Barclays Center.

N.W.A has been considered for entry into the Rock Hall four times. Deep Purple has been nominated thrice, while Miller, Chicago and Cheap Trick earned nods for the first time this year.

The 2016 crop was selected by over 800 members of the Hall's voting committee, which includes historians, artists and music industry members. In order to be eligible for nomination, the acts must have released their first single or album at least 25 years ago.

In the online fan vote, which was conducted on multiple sites, Chicago led with 23.4 percent, followed by Yes, The Cars, Deep Purple and Miller. The aggregate of the fan vote counted as a ballot in the official voting. Winners of the past two fan votes - Double Trouble and Stevie Ray Vaughan for the 2015 class, and Kiss for 2014 - subsequently made it into the Hall.
