Messi refuses to accept 'Best Player of copa America' award: report

Messi refuses to accept 'Best Player of copa America' award: report - Argentina skipper Lionel Messi reportedly declined the offer to accept the 'Best player of the tournament' award, forcing the Copa America organizers to remove the trophy from the podium at the last minute.

Minutouno.com has posted a video in which an official can be seen removing the trophy from the stage just before the presentation ceremony.

Sources said that the Barcelona striker asked the Copa America officials not to award the trophy to him at Chile's National Stadium.

It is notable that Lionel Messi has done the same in the past too. On June 13, after the match against Paraguay, when Argentina drew 2-2, Messi refused to accept the man of the match award.

Chile defeated Argentina 4-1 on penalties on Saturday night to win the Copa America for the first time.

But the tournament will remain a memorable affair for the following stars:

Top goalscorer: Eduardo Vargas (Chile) and Paolo Guerrero (Peru) - 4 goals scored

Eduardo Vargas scored the goal of the tournament to go along with another two in the group stage (vs. Ecuador and Mexico).

Paolo Guerrero was the star in Chile's quarterfinal victory over Bolivia (hat trick).

Best Young Player: Jeison Murillo (Colombia)

Jeison Murillo, 23, scored just once this tournament and it was the game-winner against Brazil in group game no. 2.

Golden Gloves: Claudio Bravo (Chile) - 4 goals conceded
