Maggi effect: FSSAI new blacklist targets Starbucks, Kellogs and more

In what seems apparently the effect of revelation of MSG and lead above permissible limit in Nestle's Maggi noodles, the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India has overruled sanctions for 500 products as of 30 April 2015.

These products include about 32 products from Tata Starbucks and a cereal product from Kellog's.

In addition to products of Starbucks and Kellog's, the other products in the list include Sun Pharmaceutical Industries' new Anofer & new Xtraglo tablets, some of Venky's chicken products, Ranbaxy's Revital Capsule, Revital Senior tablets and Revital Women Tablets.

The report mentions that the reason for the rejection of the approval has been mentioned as "high levels of sugar, caramel, salt or heavy metals, caffeine and iron fillings".

A report in The Economic Times mentioned that the companies are instructing their executives to take steps to ensure everything - "from packaging, labeling, ingredients and seasonings to product testing" - do fulfill the regulatory requirements.

"We are all going back to basics -getting product approvals right, checking combination of seasoning and the product claims made on the package. We are also now going to keep the regulators briefed on the same," a CEO of multinational foods has said in the report.
