The legal fraternity in Kolkata appears deeply divided on the issue of resignation of former Supreme Court judge Justice AK Ganguly, who is currently facing sexual harassment allegation, as the chief of West Bengal Human Rights Commission Chairman.

It is to be noted that the Centre has started the process to take legal action against Ganguly by using the President's route. The Home Ministry on Wednesday got in toich with some legal experts in order to seek their opinion that whether Delhi Police can file an FIR against Ganguly in this case.
On the other hand, many lawyers on Wednesday took out a procession pledging their support for the embattled retired SC judge.

"Once allegations are proven against Justice Ganguly, any action is appropriate. But attempts are being made to malign his reputation already and he's being forced to quit," said Bikash Ranjan Bhattacharjee, Lawyer, Former Mayor.

Former Lok Sabha Speaker Somnath Chaterjee and renowned criminal lawyer Ram Jethmalani, who claims to be a good friend of Ganguly, have openly defended Justice Ganguly,s saying no one has got the right to humiliate the revered judge and he should not be forced to quit his office. "It's not necessary that a man is always lying and a woman is always speaking the truth," said Ram Jethmalani.
But the Bar association of the Calcutta High Court is against the idea of Ganguly's stay at the chief of WBHRC.

The BJP has already demanded the sacking of Ganguly. Senior BJP leader Sushma Swaraj has repeatedly tweeted that Ganguly should step down because he is facing a serious charge.
