Jet Airways to buy 75 fuel-efficient Boeing planes – Jet Airways, the country’s second-largest airline by passengers carried, will buy 75 fuel-efficient 737 MAX planes from Boeing Co. to compete with domestic and international competitors that have already placed orders for similar planes.
Jet Airways will be the first airline in India to take delivery of 737 MAX planes, marking the largest order in the company’s history and supports the airline’s aircraft replacement strategy with modern aircraft.
The Jet Airways order includes conversions of 25 Next-Generation (NG) 737s to 737 MAX 8s, and options and purchase rights for an additional fifty aircraft.
The new single-aisle airplane will deliver 20 percent lower fuel use than the first NG 737s and the lowest operating costs in its class.
The 737 MAX planes integrate the latest technology CFM international LEAP-1B engines, advanced technology winglets and other improvements to deliver the highest passenger comfort, efficiency and reliability in the single-aisle market.
India will need 1,740 planes over the next twenty years, anticipating that more people will travel by air over the course of time, according to Boeing forecast released in August. The cost of these planes is estimated at $240 billion.
