Is Xiaomi patenting Force Touch-like technology?

Is Xiaomi patenting Force Touch-like technology? After Apple and Huawei, Chinese smartphone maker Xiaomi may be next in line to introduce 3D Touch-like pressure sensitive technology to its upcoming smartphone displays. It is the second company rumored to integrate 3D Touch-like technology to its smartphones after Samsung.

The company has filed a patent for its own brand of 3D Touch, soon after Samsung received a similar patent earlier this month, according to 9to5Mac report.

Though, Xiaomi's upcoming flagship Mi5 may be the most potential smartphone for 3D Touch to make its debut, the existing M4c is already using Synaptics' CearPad touch. Although, the hardware does support Force Touch and Side Touch, named Edge Touch by Xiaomi, the former has not been activated.

Leaked images have shown that Xiaomi Redmi Note 2 Pro has an all-metal casing and supposedly comes in two variants - one with a fingerprint scanner below the rear camera, and one without. The smartphone likely will have the same tech specs as the existing Redmi Note 2.

The Redmi Note 2 incorporates a 5.5-inch Full HD (1920x1080) display at 401 ppi, and runs on a 2.2GHz MediaTek MT6795 octa-core processor with a PowerVR G6200 GPU. It includes 2GB RAM and 32GB internal storage (expandable), and has a 13MP rear camera, 5MP front camera, and is powered by a 3060mAh battery.
