India vs South Africa: Bowling a big pain as selectors decide ODI, Test squads - The senior selection committee headed by Sandeep Patil will have to worry about the bowling combination in absence of pace battery Ishant Sharma as they meet in capital on Monday to select the teams for the last two ODIs and first two Test matches against South Africa.
While the ODI team selection may remain unchanged apart from selectors checking in on Ravichandran Ashwin's injury status, the bowling unit for Test matches can be an issue with Ishant suffering a hamstring injury during Ranji Trophy match against Haryana.
Most of the 15-men, who were part of a 2-1 series win on Sri Lankan soil after 22 years, are expected to find a place in the two matches in Mohali and Bengaluru. Murali Vijay, Shikhar Dhawan, Virat Kohli, Ajinkya Rahane, Cheteshwar Pujara and Rohit Sharma get in among the batsmen.
Bengal's Wriddhiman Saha, who missed the final Lanka Test due to a hamstring injury, is expected to be back. The three pacers likely to be selected are Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Umesh Yadav and Varun Aaron.
Bowling all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja, who has 24 wickets to his name in two domestic games for his Ranji team Saurashtra, might just get fortunate if Ashwin is not declared fit.
India are at second position in the ODI rankings ahead of South Africa and will certainly have to play good cricket to keep their place.
