How FBI caught Georgia woman tied to several jewelry heists

How FBI caught Georgia woman tied to several jewelry heists – The FBI has detained a woman named Abigail Lee Kemp for being involved in a string of armed jewelry store robberies across five Southeastern states.

On April 28, 2015, a slim white woman walked inside a place called Jared’s Vault at a Woodstock outlet mall. She woman was in athletic gear and she entered the store with a portly black man, who pulls out a handgun.

The woman tried to portray herself as an innocent bystander and she lies on the floor while the man orders store employees into a bathroom and then zip-ties their hands. The woman then rises and started to lookout for people while the man empties the cases.

Then on August 5, 2015, the same woman pulls a handgun at the Zales Outlet in Dawsonville. Again, employees are zip-tied and jewelry stolen. The woman flees when a customer enters the store.

Over the next five months, four similar robberies and one attempted robbery are reported in five different states: August 11 in Panama City Beach, Fla.; September 2 in Bluffton, S.C.; October 16 in Sevierville, Tenn.; December 30 in Macon (the failed attempt); and January 4 in Mebane, N.C. In each robbery, the woman is armed. The woman wears an earpiece during at least two of the incidents, but she never covers her face. The man accompanies the woman in the first two Georgia robberies and the one in Florida.

Abigail Lee Kemp attended Cobb County’s Kennesaw Mountain High School, then Hillgrove in Powder Springs. Her former friend Stephanie Godfrey described her as a mischievous and confident girl. Why she left her old high school was a “fun mystery for everyone.” “She thought she could get away with a lot,” Godfrey said.

Kemp worked at places like Hooters and Twin Peaks, Godfrey said. She “literally fell off the grid” before Godfrey graduated school in 2010, Godfrey added.
