Google shows links to install apps with relevant content

Search engine giant Google's mobile search results on Android will now prompt users to install mobile apps that feature content relevant to their search query. The app-download links will appear alongside links to normal websites.

Once users download the app that appears in search results, they have to click 'continue,' Google will automatically bring them to the part of the app that is relevant to their search.

The feature is only available with devices that run Google's Android operating system and not Apple's iPads and iPhones.

The new service turns the company's mobile search results page into an app discovery service and will likely be a major assistance for mobile developers because when searching for things on phones mobile users tend to go to specific apps.

In late 2013, the search engine major introduced App indexing, which allow the search engine index content from a select number of apps and link to it from its search results pages. In its previous version, users need to have the apps already installed on their phones.

The concept of App indexing has been taken further by assisting users in finding relevant content in apps that they do not already have on their mobile phones.

At present, the App Indexing project features more than 30 billion links that go to places specifically within apps. The company would not reveal how many developers have implemented this feature in their apps.
