Friend of San Bernardino shooter arrested, charged with unlawful purchase of assault rifles - A friend of the San Bernardino, California, couple whose shooting rampage two weeks ago left fourteen people dead, was arrested and charged on Thursday with the unlawful purchase of two assault rifles used in the attack.
Enrique Marquez, 24, is also accused of plotting at least two other assaults, in 2011 and 2012, with Sayed Farook that were not carried out.
According to the authorities, Marquez has been cooperating, legally purchased the two rifles used in the San Bernardino attack by US-born Syed Farook and his Pakistani wife Tashfeen Malik.
Marquez, a friend and former neighbor of Farook, would face criminal charges stemming from the December 2 assault that also left 22 people wounded, according to the Los Angeles Times report.
Marquez, who had converted to Islam, checked himself into a mental health facility after the shooting massacre and posted a cryptic message on Facebook that said, "I'm very sorry guys. It was a pleasure."
Farook and his wife, who had a baby daughter, were gunned down by the police following the shooting, which is being investigated as a terrorist attack.
