Freedom 251 bookings open, website crashes in first hour

New Delhi: The much-anticipated sale of Freedom 251, hyped as world's cheapest phone, began today morning and with that has started the booking troubles for customers.

The Rs. 251 smartphone, which was unveiled by Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar as a Make in India initiative on Wednesday, opened for booking at 6 in the morning today. However, the website has been unsuccessful in taking any booking requests.

People slammed the company Ringing Bells that is manufacturing the phone with help from the Indian government, which feels that cheaper smartphones will result in a digital revolution in the country and will give momentum to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's ambitious Startup India campaign.

Freedom 251 has been trending on Twitter for the last 12 hours. First it was trending for being the cheapest phone in the world and now for the company's inability to take online orders.

Many also claimed that smartphones at Rs. 251 was nothing but a publicity stunt. They even compared the products with Government's another "failed" product Akash.
