Ensure proper utilization of dengue funds: HC to Delhi

The Delhi High Court has asked the Delhi government to ensure that dengue funds released to civic bodies were utilized properly to control the menace.

Chief Justice G. Rohini and Justice Jayant Nath also asked the city government to cooperate with all the departments and ensure that dengue and malaria control programmes were implemented properly.

The High Court order has come after a PIL was filed by Congress leader Ajay Maken, who accused the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government and municipal corporations of not being adequately prepared to control the dengue outbreak in the city.

The Congress leader, through advocates Mudit Gupta and Aman Panwar, told the court that the government allocated Rs.81.52 crore towards malaria and dengue control programmes but released fifty percent funds to municipal corporations on September 22, a day after the court's intervention.

The AAP government informed the court that Rs.60 crore was released to the 3 municipal corporations for sanitation programmes to deal with the dengue outbreak.

Government counsel Rahul Mehra said that the first installment of grant-in-aid amounting to 25 percent of the total funds was allocated to the 3 corporations on September 17, and the second installment of 50 percent was released on September 22.
