Britain's Queen names Angelina Jolie 'honorary dame' for humanitarian work by

London: Britain's Queen Elizabeth on Friday named Hollywood star Angelina Jolie as 'honorary dame' for her humanitarian work.

She was presented the honor as part of the Birthday Honors List presented by the Queen annually. Jolie has been honored for her work combating sexual violence in war zones.

The honorary dame is the female version of a knight. Jolie has been a United Nations special envoy for years.

"To receive an honor related to foreign policy means a great deal to me, as it is what I wish to dedicate my working life to," Jolie said after co-hosting a four-day summit at The Hague on sexual violence.

The Oscar-winning actress has dropped hints that she could wind up her film career to continue with her humanitarian work. The American-born actress lives with Hollywood actor Brad Pitt.

Since Jolie is not a British citizen, she cannot get the full title of dame - hence the word "honorary" has been added in front of her new accolade.

The Queen gives several honors as part of her annual Birthday Honors List. She honors people who are doing service to their community or national life.
