BJP trying to cripple Delhi with LG backing: Kejriwal

New Delhi: On Wednesday, Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal accused LG Najeeb Jung of colluding with BJP to "cripple" the city as a section of the autorickshaw unions staged a hunger strike in front of his residence.

Kejriwal retweeted a video put up by transport minister Satyendar Jain and said, "See this. BJP goons stopping autos n taxis from plying. BJP wants to cripple del. Active support frm LG n Del polic" (sic).

Transport minister also questioned the police's "inaction" against "BJP-backed goons" who allegedly did not let autos and passenger vehicles ply.

Meanwhile, the joint action committee (JAC) of auto and taxi unions threatened to get the small truck and transporters' union to participate in the strike.

"We are giving the Delhi government time till Thursday. If it doesn't announce any measures to rein in the app-based taxi services, the transporters' union will also join the strike from Friday. We will have a chakka jam in the city," JAC member Rajender Soni said.

It should be noted here that Soni's union, the Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh, is affiliated to RSS.

Later in the evening, a section of auto drivers said that they were no longer part of the strike. AAP MLA Sanjeev Jha also said that the strike had been called off by many of the striking unions.

Soni, however, said, "These are the government's own supporters who have called off the strike. More than 25 auto and taxi unions are still on strike, and it will continue till the government accedes to our demands."

"We are not goons, it is Kejriwal, his party and his government, which are goons. They do this kind of thing to hide their failures." Asked about the claims of some drivers that they were being forced to stay off the road, Soni further said adding, "They (AAP) are conspiring against us to derail our strike. Those indulging in such practices are not our people but are hired by them (AAP)."
