BCCI to elect new president in SGM on Sunday?

The Board of Cricket for Control in India (BCCI) is likely to convene its Special General Meeting (SGM) in Mumbai on Sunday to select its new president, according to reports.

As per a CNN IBN report, BCCI secretary Anurag Thakur will summon the meeting where Shashank Manohar is said to be the prime candidate to succeed Dalmiya.

Thakur, along with former BCCI president Manohar and former treasurer Ajay Shirke, met Arun Jaitley at his residence on Thursday night and discussed the future course of action to break the leadership stalemate.

It is learnt that Manohar, the Vidarbha-based lawyer was offered the BCCI president's post for his clean image and being a champion of anti-corruption in the board but apparently he rejected the offer.

Sourav Ganguly, who was recently appointed as the new president of Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) by state chief minister Mamata Banerjee, is also said to be supporting Manohar for the post.

If there is more than one candidate in the fight , an election will be held and the chosen president will stay in charge till 2017.
