E-commerce giant Amazon is set to let customers make payment using a selfie.
The company's aim is to authorize a transaction with a selfie, which means you will need to look halfway decent while doing some late-night, online shopping.
A patent application for this technology was filed by Amazon on Thursday and it was first seen by Re/Code. The patent describes using a camera to identify a user using facial recognition and the verification of the real customers is done by asking them to perform an action, like blinking.
In the patent, Amazon has also mentioned the need for improved security around these electronic systems that allow you to purchase items with one click. It is possible to get password of a person to his or her Amazon account, where the customers can engage on a shopping spree, but Amazon believes that the use of facial recognition could make it a lot harder for hackers and thieves to use your accounts.
In its patent illustrations, Amazon has shown how the camera of a device could be used for facial recognition, requesting the user to perform an action like blinking. The patent also describes the problems faced by customers while typing in passwords on mobile devices that have small touch keyboards.
In its patent, Amazon has said that its new technology could be used on a number of devices, including desktops, laptops, phones and tablets. The company has also put an image showing that the image verification would be completed separate from the place a user is doing the shopping.
