Washington: United States Senator, Chuck Schumer has urged the federal government to necessitate child-proof caps on the containers of E-cigarette refills.

Schumer said he is concerned about the accidental poisonings resulting from the liquid nicotine in the containers of e-cigarettes refills.

He stated there has been a rise in the number of calls made to the poison control centers because of liquid nicotine.

The New York democrat added that the poison control centers in New York have received almost 70 calls so far this year relating to accidental poisonings resulting from the liquid as compared to 46 calls made in all of the year 2013.

Schumer stated that consumption of the chemical can cause heart problems, nausea vomiting, seizures and, possibly, death.
