The Medical Marijuana bill has finally cleared the Republican-dominated House with a 218-189 vote, bringing good news for the supports of the bill.
This bill will also be welcome news to the 73 percent of Americans who favor medical marijuana use. The proposed bill is aimed to prevent any hindrance from the federal government when it comes to state medical marijuana laws. The bill would specifically apply to Colorado and Washington where recreational marijuana is legalized even now.
Legislation that legalizes medical marijuana is already in place in almost half of the country, comprising 22 states and Washington, D.C. while additional legislation is currently in progress in Florida, New York, Ohio and Pennsylvania.
The only setback for legality of medical marijuana is that the requirements for someone to receive a medical marijuana card are different in each state.
In Minnesota and some other states, patients with severe illnesses are allowed to purchase marijuana oil, pills and vapor but they are not permitted to smoke it. On the other hand, California, permits patients to possess up to 8 ounces of marijuana and has a much longer list of illnesses that qualify for the purchase of cannabis.
