American actress, Kerry Washington, made the March issue cover of InStyle magazine, but it seems like everyone is not happy with it, as fans have criticized the actress's lightened skin tone.
The 38-year old actress had released the image on Instagram, writing that she was thrilled and excited to share it, but fans expressed their displeasure saying things like "Very sad to see this cover. Way too much Photoshop."
After all the criticism and backlash on the social media, the magazine released a statement saying: To feature Kerry on the cover of our March spring fashion issue is both a delight and honor. We have heard from those who have spoken against our newsstand cover photograph, concerned that Kerry's skin tone was lightened.
Though, we did not digitally lighten Kerry's skin tone, our cover lighting has likely contributed to this concern. We understand that this has resulted in hurt and disappointment among the fans world over. We are constantly listening and the feedback from the fans has been valuable, the magazine said.
It must be noted that this is not the first time fans have been left outraged by one of Kerry's cover photos, nor is InStyle the first magazine called out for supposedly lightening someone's skin.
Many people felt that Kerry's December 2013/January 2014 cover of Lucky had been edited beyond all recognition, with many voicing similar concerns about the apparent lightening of her skin color.
