Hockey India League: Delhi Waveriders thrash Dabang Mumbai 3-1

The crowd present to witness Dabang Mumbai take on defending champions Delhi Waveriders in Hockey India League match endured yet another disappointing result as the host had to face a 3-1 defeat.

The visitors took just four minutes to open the scoring. Mumbai started well. It dominated possession and made majority of the attacks. Rupinder Pal Singh, the Delhi defender saw an opening through the middle and drilled a cross field pass. This could essential be an attempt to relieve the defence.

The pass was deflected to Simon Child present on the edge of the shooting area. The New Zealander decided to go for a reverse shot giving the visitors a lead.

From there the home side started putting pressure on the opposition goal once again. However, the defenders often managed to guide the ball to safety with the Goal Keeper being tested. A lot of this depended on skipper Sardar Singh's return.

Gurbaj Singh was solid as always on the right. Steadily, Delhi began to make inraods into Mumbai half. A counter attack was guided by the 26-year-old India international in the 48th minute. A pass to Steven Edwards was knocked on to Simon Child and the latter neatly slotted for the second goal.

Ten minutes from time, Mumbai team managed to pull one back. Harmanpreet Singh, penalty corner specialist saw his shot evade Erasmus Peterse to score one for the hosts.

After this, Mumbai increased its efforts to equalise while Delhi latched on to counter attacking measures. Four Delhi forwards broke out against the defender in the last minute of the game. Virkam Pillay managed to get a crucial interception to hinder the attempts of Talwinder Singh.

However, Timothy Drummond picked the ball and passed in on to Jason Wilkson who managed to slot in an open goal. After the victory, Delhi has moved up to the third spot at middle of season while Mumbai remains at the bottom.
