The project was referred to as a 'spaceship' by late co-founder Steve Jobs.
Apple's new headquarters which has been under construction for some time is scheduled for launch in 2016. The progress of the facility has been hidden from public and from the ground, one can see nothing more than under construction signs. Much more about the campus is now known through the video captured by an enterprising drone owner who went above the walls on the construction site.
The progress so far has been quite significant, shows the eight-minute long video. The foundation has been laid in a defined circular shape. Another interesting things that the video highlights is how large the facility is when on comparing it will other building in the same environment.
A DJI Phantom equipped with a GoPro Hero 3+ camera was used for capturing the footage. According to the operator, in order to avoid the risk of an aerial trespass and the no-fly zones of airport, he flew over 4 feet.
It was reported that the building will cover about three million square feet of floor area , will have a circumference of almost a mile, and is expected to house around 12,000 employees.
Steve Jobs wanted to include large open space in the facility. Thus, by using circular design it becomes possible to include bicycle trails and orchards in the middle. The campus will also have underground car parking to manage the need for greenery and transport space.
Renewable energy resources will be used in the campus and Apple will tap into national grid only when it is necessary. Around 80 per cent of the facility will be landscape -based.
