Deadly Asian Hornet sighting reported in Scotland

Glasgow: The workmen in Fife spotted an insect which as per their description was about two to three inches in length and the sting was almost as long as a needle.

According to 30-year-old Andrew Allan hailing from East Kilbride, he sighted a hornet significantly bigger than the one dreaded to be coming towards the Channel. It is anticipated that he spotted a different species of the aggressive hornet - the ?hornet? (Vespa crabro) or a Horntail.

Asian hornets are predators with a black or dark brown thorax and can increase its size by 3cm.

The British Non-Native Special Secretariat (NNSS) said in a statement that these Asian hornets after their arrival in France have been "rapidly extending its range".

There is a high possibility of the species coming to UK and would be spotted on cut flowers, fruit or on un-treated timber. As per the NNSS these hornets could just fly across the Channel.

The aggressive insect can extensively harm the bee colonies, bee-keeping organisations and governmental departments are requesting the individuals to inform them if they spot the dangerous species.

The British Beekeepers Association, said in a statement, "Do not under any circumstances disturb or provoke an active hornets' nest".
