Beijing effect: Delhi taking measures to reduce high air pollution levels

Delhi government has finally decided to take measures to tackle the high levels of air pollution in the city after the alarming revelation of Delhi being the most polluted city even beating Beijing.

Delhi's government has decided to adopt mechanical cleaning of roads in order to cut air pollution in the city.

Delhi is the most polluted city in the world and despite this the pollution in the city was increasing unchecked. But now the state government has come up with some plans to curb the rise in air pollution level in the city.

The state government has decided to opt for mechanical cleaning of roads in order to bring down pollution. The government is also planning to plant grass on either side of the road next. Experts maintain that plan could help in bringing down the pollution level in the air slightly but it is unlikely that it will improve Delhi's air quality substantially.

According to reports, more than one third of the air pollution in Delhi is caused by dust.

In an apparent effort to reduce pollution in the city, the National Green Tribunal recently banned the entry of more than ten year old vehicles in Delhi. The tribunal has also ordered the government to take measures in order to control completely the dust coming from construction sites in the city.

Talking about the new plan, PWD minister Satyender Jain said, "We have prepared a plan to decrease air pollution, according to which we will make all 1,200 km roads of Public Works Department dust-free by mechanical cleaning. In the next three months, mechanical cleaning of PWD's roads will begin."
