Amazon feuds with Hachette over pricing of e-books

Amazon has upped the ante by increasing pressure on Hachette in order to get better pricing on its e-books.

What has been an ordeal for Amazon in the form of reduced discounts on paper books and needless shipping delays is now turning into an assertive pressure on Hachette.

The e-commerce giant has begun pulling pre-orders for Hachette labels, either eliminating product pages or categorizing them as unavailable.

This dispute has left many people caught in the conflict as customers now have to visit smaller stores that would take advance purchases and authors losing income.

In 2010, the e-commerce giant pulled Macmillan?s books after Macmillan demanded favorable pricing from Amazon, which normally sells e-books below retail prices so as to boost adoption.

Amazon only acquiesced after Apple forayed into the e-book segment with favorable pricing model that provided publishers more influence.

This business arrangement got Apple and associates into trouble for suspected price fixing, however it also kept Amazon from taking undue benefit of its e-commerce supremacy to squeeze publishers.

Now that those firms are legally stopped from making such type of deals, Amazon might have returned to utilizing its market lead in an effort to handle major book publishers that fall out of line.
