AC/DC drummer Phil Rudd detained in murder plot

AC/DC drummer Phil Rudd was arrested today morning in New Zealand for attempting to procure a murder. A member of the Tauranga Central division of New Zealand Police confirmed Rudd's arrest but declined to reveal more details.

Sydney Morning Herald reported that Rudd allegedly tried to have two as-yet-unidentified men killed and he has also been charged with possession of methamphetamine, possession of cannabis and threatening to kill.

The drummer appeared in Tauranga District Court and was granted bail. The date for Rudd's next hearing has not been fixed yet and New Zealand police have yet not revealed any details behind Rudd's arrest or who was the intended victim. The Sun said that Rudd was "accused of procuring murder" between September 25th and 26th.

The drug charges against the 60-year-old drummer are related to a raid at his house conducted by police on Thursday.

It remains to be seen how Rudd's arrest will affect the upcoming 2015 world tour of the group. The band had been preparing for the December 2nd release of Rock or Bust, their first record in six years.

This is also going to be the first record of the band without founding rhythm guitarist Malcolm Young, who left the band earlier this year due to dementia. The band debuted the first song to come off the album, "Play Ball," online in October.

Rudd joined AC/DC in 1975 and stayed with the band until 1983, moving to Tauranga after leaving the group. He rejoined AC/DC in 1994. The drummer released his debut album, Head Job, in August.
