Xiaomi is all set to launch a new Redmi phone in India today. This new Redmi phone is said to be a "Desh K Smartphone" which invariably means that it will be designed for India, and will be made (assembled) in India as well.
Xiaomi, to recall, now makes (assembles) a considerable chunk of phones -- more than 90 per cent, according to Xiaomi -- that it sells here in the country itself. Considering that the upcoming phone is coming from the Redmi banner, we can totally expect it to cost under Rs 10,000 on arrival.
Not a lot is known about Xiaomi's soon-to-be-launched Redmi phone except for the fact that it will be a Flipkart-exclusive in the country and will offer a long-lasting battery life.
Although the phone will be available from Flipkart, it should also be available on Xiaomi's online retail store, aka, Mi.com/in. As the company has also been expanding its offline presence, the upcoming Redmi phone will likely be available via offline sales channels like Xiaomi's Mi Home stores as well.
Flipkart recently went live with its official page for this upcoming Redmi phone although the page shares no hardware specifics of the said phone. All we know for now is that the phone will -- it is already known courtesy Xiaomi -- come equipped with a long-lasting battery. Considering that the phone is coming from the Redmi banner, we can totally expect it to cost under Rs 10,000 on arrival.
Considering that Xiaomi is banking heavily on the battery aspect of this Redmi phone, there's a possibility that the phone in question could be the Redmi 5A. The Redmi 5A, which was launched in China in October, is also an entry-level phone, its main USP being the fact that it is claimed to offer a whopping 8-days of battery life on stand-by on single charge.
The Redmi 5A is successor to the Redmi 4A and retains much of its predecessor's hardware set as also its ultra-affordable price tag. The Redmi 5A is available in China at CNY 599 (roughly Rs 6,000).
In terms of hardware specs, the Redmi 5A comes with a 5-inch HD IPS display with a 720p resolution. It is powered by a 1.4GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 425 processor coupled with Adreno 308 GPU, 2GB RAM and 16GB of internal memory which is further expandable via micro-SD card slot. The dual-SIM phones runs Android Nougat-based MIUI 9 out-of-the-box and supports 4G LTE (VoLTE-ready) connectivity.
On the camera front the Redmi 5A comes with a 13-megapixel camera on the rear with f/2.2 aperture along with autofocus and an LED flash. On the front you get a 5-megapixel snapper. The phone is backed by a 3,000mAh battery which is non-removable.
