A Virginia police officer identified as Ashley Guindon was fatally shot during her first weekend on the job.
Confiriming Guindon's death, the Prince William County Police Department announced that the officer was one amongthe three officers who rushed to a domestic related incident earlier in the evening in Woodbridge, Virginia, had died.
The police department's Twitter feed said Guindon was sworn in to the department on Friday. She started her first shift this weekend.
"Welcome Officers Steven Kendall & Ashley Guindon who were sworn in today & begin their shifts this weekend. Be safe! Pi," Prince William Co PD had tweeted on February 26.
Police said in a statement that the other two officers who got injured in the accident were being treated for their injuries. Their conditions were not made public. "We ask for everyone's thoughts and prayers as our department deals with this tragic loss," the police statement said.
CBS News reported the officers were fired upon around 5:30 p.m. when they arrived at a home in Woodbridge, about 20 miles southwest of Alexandria. The police responded after receiving a call about an argument. Probus said a man, who escaped unharmed, was arrested for questioning.
