Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav is set to expand his cabinet on June 27, officials said.
Rumors are swirling that Akhilesh is planning to rejig the ministry, but the news was confirmed after the timetable for swearing-in was confirmed by Governor Ram Naik on June 27.
Meanwhile, the Parliamentary Board of the Samajwadi Party (SP) is scheduled to meet on June 25 to hold talks over the potential candidates for the ministry.
This is going to be the seventh expansion of the four-and-a-half-year-old SP government. The last expansion took place on October 31 last year when the chief minister had inducted five cabinet ministers, eight ministers of state with independent charge and eight state ministers.
Sources said Lucknow MLAs Sharda Pratap Shukla and Ravidas Mehrotra might be made ministers, the chief minister might also give chance to Ghazala Lahiri to pacify the Muslims. It is to be noted that the
Muslims went unrepresented in the just concluded Legislative Council and Rajya Sabha polls.
It is learned that SP Chief Mulayam Singh Yadav and Public Works Department Minister Shivpal Singh Yadav had instructed Akhliesh that the rejig must reflect inclusiveness and balance the caste and community.
