Gorakhpur: At least 30 people are feared dead and 50 got injured injured as Gorakhpur-bound Gorakhdham Express rammed into a goods train at Chureb station between Basti and Gorakhpur today.
Sources said that the accident happened after both the trains came on the single track due to signal error.
The accident was so severe that three general coaches of Gorakhdham Express were completely crushed while six others got derailed.
The people living in nearby villages rushed immediately to the site of accident to help the passengers. The railway officials were yet to confirm the number of dead and injured.
CPRO, Ner, Alok Kumar Singh said that lot of people are believed to be trapped inside the coaches and their main focus is to rescue them alive.
Meanwhile, PM-designate Narendra Modi offered condolences to the families of the people who lost their lives in this tragic accident.
"My condolences to families of those who lost their lives in the Gorakhdham express tragedy. Prayers with the injured," he tweeted.
"Spoke to the Cabinet Secretary. Asked him to take an overview of the situation & ensure timely assistance to those injured," Modi added.
