Three junior doctors including a woman of AIIMS Delhi were killed in the intervening night of Saturday and Sunday on Yamuna expressway, while four other doctors were gravely injured in the accident.
The accident occurred near milestone 88 in Surir police jurisdiction of Mathura district, while the group of doctors were heading Agra to celebrate fellow mate birthday.
Victims of the accident were identified as Dr Harshad Wankhade (34), Dr Yashpreet Singh (25) and Dr Hembala (24), their bodies were taken to government hospital mortuary.
While the injured doctors were identified as Dr Catherin Halam, Dr Mahesh Kumar, Dr Jitender Mourya and Dr Abhinava Singh, who were taken to private hospital and are currently under treatment.
Deputy superintendent of police, Vijay Shankar Mishra, said, "The accident occurred at around 3 am, when the group of doctors of AIIMS Delhi were heading Agra to celebrate Dr Harshad birthday. It was Dr Harshad who was driving the Toyota Innvoa. The speeding car rammed into the rear of a truck."
He said, "Since it was late hours, we assume that driver might have felt asleep. One of the injured doctors informed us, that all of them were sleeping the car, when the accident occurred."
According to police source, the impact of the accident was so severe that mangled car dragged behind the truck for nearly 300 meters. It took half an hour to take out the victim from the mangled car.
Dr Catherin reportedly suffered head injury, while rest of the injured doctors have hand and leg fractures.
